The Sneetches

Directions:
Read the book The Sneetches to your class.  ( I have one copy of this book if anyone would like to borrow it.)  This book is about how the "star bellied" sneetches felt like they were better than the 'plain bellied" sneetches.
Lead a class discussion about what this could look like in our school (excluding others at recess, not allowing someone to sit with you at lunch, telling secrets, etc.)
After the discussion, transition to a game.  Have the students sit or stand in a circle and give half of them a post it note with a star on it.  Remind the kids that having a star does not mean you are better, it is just for the game.  Start the game by passing a ball or a soft object to a student with a star.  Tell that student one positive trait you see in them.  Then, that student pass the ball to a student WITHOUT a star and says one thing that makes that student special.  Continue until all students have had a turn.
Finally discuss how the positive statements felt.  Write the feelings words on the smart board in little thought bubbles and stand in front of the board when you are finished to show how kind words and actions give people positive thought bubbles.
